 How to win: Be Polite

The late great Vince Lombardi, coach of the Green Bay Packers, is often quoted as saying, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing". The actual quote was, "Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is.

The difference between the two sentiments is as vast as the ocean. When winning is the only thing that matters, our priorities and our behavior can become skewed. It is alright to want to win, but we should also want to treat our partners and opponents and our friends with respect so we all enjoy giving our best, even when it is not enough to win.
